Die Rasselbande Preschool is a nonprofit German immersion preschool serving children ages two to five. Founded in fall 2003 by Heike Paulsen and Johanna Petosa as a cooperative program, it became a fully licensed preschool in March 2008. The school relocated to a smaller new home in El Cajon in summer 2022. Primarily German is spoken during school hours, with limited English used for clarity and safety. Communication with families and official records are maintained in English.
We believe children learn best through play in a safe, supportive environment. Each child is treated as an individual, with teaching guided by observation and knowledge of child development. Our theme based curriculum adapts to children’s interests and daily experiences while integrating language across all activities. Creative expression is encouraged and challenged, and children develop physical, emotional, and social skills. The goal is to foster confidence, independence, and positive participation within a group setting.
